Het is geen geheim dat de Xbox One van Microsoft het niet zo goed doet als de PlayStation 4. Microsoft weet dit en probeert er met man en macht iets aan te doen. De Scorpio zou hierin een grote stap zijn. In de tijd van de Xbox 360 was er bijna geen game, behalve exclusieve PS4-games, die niet op de 360 te vinden was. De console was een geweldige machine en dat hadden heel veel ontwikkelaars door. Bij de Xbox One is dat weggezakt. Microsoft geeft dit ook toe en wil met de Scorpio deze allemaal weer terughalen.

De Scorpio is gemaakt, samen met de tools, met de ontwikkelaars in het achterhoofd zeg Microsoft. Het gereedschap dat men beschikbaar heeft moet de developers de mogelijkheden geven om de beste versie van hun game te kunnen maken. En de gamers? Die willen, ook volgens Microsoft, graag de nieuwste technologie in hun console. Microsoft denkt dus een slag te kunnen slaan bij beide groepen. De herfst zal het leren. Vooral ook de prijs, die nu van de Xbox One Scorpio geschat wordt op $499,- zal bijdragen het succes of het falen van deze hardware.

The team looked back at developers and the developer relationship we have. With Xbox 360 we had the absolute best platform for developers, [with Xbox One] we sort of lost that in a two-year time-frame, so we said how do we win the mind-share of those developers back?

We want the best games running on our box and there are tools, devkits and some arrows like that to win the developers back. So that was a big priority for us as we approached this product. We have to win the hearts and minds of developers. We have to have the right toolset that lets them bring out their games across the whole family of products and let them create the absolute best versions of those games.

When we see consumers tell us they want the latest technology [and] experience more frequently to our traditional console business that doesn’t really align with that, you have to pause, you have to take some pretty big risks.
